Data Systems Engineering Lead

What could be better than data from battles between heavily armed mechs? Terabytes of it, of course!
Meteor Entertainment is seeking a data systems engineering lead to design and implement a system that supports the aggregation, storage, and analysis of real-time streams of in-game and out-of-game data. As the owner of data systems and primary liaison between game platform engineering and business intelligence, the data systems engineering lead has a unique window into all aspects of bringing a game to market as well as the inner mechanics of the game world — player behaviors, team dynamics, virtual goods and economics — and the systems supporting it around the world.
The data systems engineering lead reports to the CIO and will direct a small team focused on data engineering.

Requirements

Five or more years designing, building, and operating data processing systems. Experience as a team lead is a plus.
Passion for and experience in multiplayer online games is a big plus — the games are primary source of data to be processed and analyzed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write solid specifications and support arguments using data.
Expertise designing data storage and processing systems using both traditional (SQL and ETL tooling, data warehouse) and “big data” (Hadoop, Pig, Cascading, Hive, HBase, Cassandra).
Knowledge of techniques and strategies for using Amazon Web Services and other “cloud” providers effectively, especially high availability, geographic distribution, cost management/minimization, and data security.
Experience assessing and selecting storage platforms and tooling.
Ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups to create bridges between data sources and business requirements.
Please send resumes and cover letters to jobs@meteor-ent.com
